Short Story

Character Actor/Artist/Potter/Filmmaker Theo Stephens believes that “preparation + repetition are the keys to success!” Theo’s preparation began at the age of seven, performing in school plays and the choir, as well as organising the neighbourhood kids to perform in his plays, a time when street theatre and week-end puppet shows were un-common.

Throughout high school, he performed in musicals and joined local amateur musical societies as well as taking dance classes. Throughout high school he also worked at the local cinema being able to watch ‘thousands’ of movies, becoming totally infatuated with moving pictures.

After completing high school, Theo had an opportunity to audition with the Conservatorium of Music, on his way to becoming a high school music teacher. He decided to take another road and went to audition at Doris Fitton’s, The Independent Theatre School of Dramatic Art. Theo was accepted into the three year drama course and decided to live his dream of becoming an Actor. Theo studied under the direction of Australia’s leading drama teacher, Gillian Owen (Ms Owen appears in the film, “The Prince and the Showgirl” with Marilyn Monroe and Laurence Olivier) and studied dance movement with legendary dance teacher, Keith Bain.

During this time, Theo also worked for Village/Roadshow Films in the Advertising/Marketing/Art Department learning the “other side” of the film business – he soon discovered a keen interest for Producing – after completing a three year course in Human Resources Management (being HR Manager for The Marriott Hotel, Novotel, The Pullman Hotel, Energee Entertainment (Animation Studio) & Personnel Manager at The InterContinental Hotel), and undertaking courses in Producing and Marketing at the Australian Film, TV and Radio School and with the SCC, he was ready to combine all his skills and resources into writing, producing and directing short films.

Theo currently divides his time between Acting, Teaching Drama, Writing, Creating Art (Painting + Pottery) and recently has been teaching ‘Art Therapy Ceramics’ within Aged and Mental Health Care.

“With enthusiasm and energy, enjoy all that you do and you become a force so powerful, the world just has to take notice!”

Theo Stephens.
